Here are a few easy things you can do to eliminate cockroach problems at home, and we’re always a phone call away if you need help dealing with an advanced infestation!

Eliminate access points and potential habitat—Your first order of business should be mowing your lawn and trimming shrubbery that comes into direct contact with your home. You should also cover attic and crawl space vents with fine mesh screens and seal areas where pipes or wires enter your home with clear siliconized caulk. You’re also probably long overdue for some attic decluttering, and you should avoid stockpiling empty boxes and paper bags.

Keep your kitchen spotlessly clean—Wipe down your countertops after every meal, and avoid piling up dishes in the sink. Cereal, grains, and pasta should always be stored in airtight containers, and you should take out the trash daily, even if the bag isn’t completely full.

Use natural repellents—A few drops of your favorite essential oil (such as peppermint, tea tree, or cedarwood oil) mixed with water in a spray bottle is a safe and natural insect repellent, and it also smells great! Unfortunately, repellents aren’t always effective if you have an advanced infestation. Some baits are designed to stick to roaches so they can carry poison back to the nest, and glue traps are a great way to deal with stragglers. For maximum effectiveness, replace store-bought baits and traps at least every three months.
