A few simple steps to keep the cockroaches away all summer long!
Summertime means creating a lot of new memories with your kids, and you owe it to yourself and your family to enjoy your home, both inside and out. Unfortunately, during the summer months, insects and household pests are the most active, and if you don’t take the proper precautions, you could find yourself sharing your home with a lot of unwanted guests, particularly cockroaches.
The good news is that our team at The Bug Man, Inc., has been Arkansas’ home pest control leader for over four decades, and we’re standing by when you’re ready to have a cockroach free home. Call us any time that you need professional roach control services, and we’ll be there. But sometimes the best defense is a good offense, and we recommend a few ways to stop an infestation before it starts:
Deep clean any areas where food was prepared or served-The kitchen is the most obvious place to deep clean, and you need to get behind and underneath appliances. The dining room is another obvious place. But these days, a lot of families eat in front of the TV, and you need to be sure to sweep and vacuum up crumbs. And don’t forget that children love to sneak food back to their room!
Eliminate outdoor habitats-Keep your lawn mowed and hedges trimmed, and you will be providing a lot less areas for insects to gather and breed. And you want to eliminate any standing water outdoors, because that is where many insects lay their eggs. Dump out pet food dishes and kiddie pools after use, and if there are any areas where rainwater gathers, you may want to consider installing a French drain.
Grab a tube of caulk-One of the ways that cockroaches get in is the gap between the wall and the drainpipe. An inexpensive tube of caulk can seal up those gaps, and you should check all sinks in the house. You should also be sure that the wax seal under your toilets are in working condition.
