A few easy tips to keep the ants away as spring begins

Spring has officially sprung in The Natural State, and we’re already enjoying longer days and warmer weather. Insects start becoming much more active in the springtime, and The Bug Man offers monthly mosquito treatment services each year from April through October that start at $90 for an average-sized yard. We’re also a phone call away if you’re experiencing an infestation of ants or other pests inside your home!
Whenever you’re dealing with ants, you’re facing a foe that believes in “strength in numbers!” All it takes is one curious ant to find a sticky spot on your countertop, and hundreds (or even thousands) of his friends will arrive in a matter of minutes. But they’re no match for vigilant homeowners who take a few basic precautions, and there are a few easy ways to prevent infestations before they start:
Eliminate food sources—Ants are absolutely relentless in their pursuit of food, which is why it’s crucial to keep your kitchen clean at all times. Wipe down your sink and countertops after every meal, and get in the habit of rinsing off your dishes and loading them into the dishwasher instead of piling them up in the sink!
Seal up access points—Ants and roaches often find their way indoors through openings where pipes and wires enter your home, so grab a tube of clear siliconized caulk and seal up any gaps you find around your sink drain. And if you see any moisture or water-damaged wood under your sink, call a plumber to investigate before more serious problems have a chance to develop.
Use repellents and barriers—Once scout ants locate a food source, they’ll leave pheromone trails all the way back to the nest to guide the way for others. Keep a spray bottle of white vinegar handy to wipe down your counters and remove their scent trails, or mix 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil into two cups of water. Store-bought glue traps and baits are generally safe to use around children and pets, but be sure to read all the safety instructions before purchase and replace them at least every three months for maximum effectiveness.
