There are few things more irritating to most homeowners than seeing ants in their kitchen. Even if it’s just one, you’re often minutes away from having a lengthy trail of ants stretching across their home. And now that it’s beginning to get colder outside, your likelihood of having them enter your home in search of warmth and food increases significantly.

The Bug Man has been the leading provider of pest control in Arkansas since 1976, and we’re here to help you with any infestation of insects or wildlife in your home. We enjoy helping our clients take a proactive approach to preventing infestations before they start. Here are a few effective ways to reduce your likelihood of an ant infestation:

Clean, clean, clean-This is one of the easiest places to start. Your kitchen needs to be deep cleaned regularly, and your countertops need to be wiped down each time that food is prepared. Be sure to clean behind and underneath appliances, and don’t let dishes pile up in the sink. You should also take out the trash every night, even if the bag isn’t quite full.

Don’t store food on the counter-This is also common sense. There’s nothing wrong with letting some vegetables ripen in the window or on the counter, but generally, all food should be stored in the refrigerator or the pantry. It should also be stored in airtight containers.

Use traps-If you catch an infestation early enough, you might be able to use some glue traps, which are easily available at the hardware store or the grocery store. They don’t use any chemicals, and are safe around children and animals.

Tend to your yard-If you regularly mow your lawn, pest control is much easier. It provides less shelter for bugs and other pests. Be sure also to trim any shrubs or tree branches that come into direct contact with the home, and eliminate any standing water sources.
