Springtime in Arkansas is a special time, and we all enjoy the warm, mild temperatures that precede the punishingly hot summer months. Unfortunately, flies enjoy springtime just as much as we do, and if you get an infestation in your home, they can be a real nuisance.

The Bug Man, Inc. is the leading provider of pest control in Little Rock, and we’re always available if you need quality pest management services at a price that you can afford. But there are also a number of things that you can do on your own to prevent problems before they start:

Flies are scavengers, and are always looking for easy sources of food and water. Your first line of attack should be kitchen cleanliness. Pull out all of your countertop appliances, and clean up all the crumbs and spills that you don’t normally think about. Be sure that there are no holes in door and window screens, or gaps under exterior doors. Clean your outdoor grill after each use, and don’t leave pet food outside when it’s not feeding time.

There are many inexpensive adhesive traps that you can purchase at hardware stores and home improvement retailers that are ugly, but effective. You can also find instructions for several homemade fly traps on the internet. Surprisingly, bug zappers are not particularly effective for the price that you pay to buy them and keep them powered.

Chemical Repellents

If you’re concerned about using bug sprays around your pets or children, there are several herbs and spices that have natural repellent properties, such as lavender, citronella, mint, and eucalyptus. You can grow them fresh, or fill a few small cloth pouches with dry herbs and hide them in inconspicuous areas. Chemical sprays are generally safe if used according to the product labeling, but be sure that whatever products that you purchase include Pyrethrum.

If you ever do find yourself with an infestation of flies or other household pests, be sure to give The Bug Man a call.
