Three tips to keep the mosquitoes away this spring
Every Arkansan enjoys mild temperatures in the Springtime before the brutal summer months, and it’s one of the best times to get outside! Unfortunately, insect activity is also on the rise in the spring, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed if you don’t take the necessary precautions. But The Bug Man has been helping Arkansas homeowners keep their homes pest-free since 1976, and we offer affordable monthly mosquito treatment services each year from April through October!
Our mosquito treatment plans start at $75 a month for an average-sized yard, and it’s a great investment in your family’s safety and comfort. We also offer one-time treatment packages if you need to prepare for an outdoor event at your home or your church. But when it comes to mosquitoes and other outdoor pests, the best defense is a good offense. Here are a few easy things you can do on your own to enjoy a pest-free springtime:
Mow your lawn regularly-Your neighbors will talk if you don’t pay attention to your yard work, and an unkempt lawn offers plenty of habitat for insects and other pests. Be sure to also prune your hedges adjacent to your home and any tree branches that overhang or come into contact with your roof. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water, so make sure to circulate the water in your outdoor fountain and empty pet food and water dishes each night.
Use natural repellents-Marigolds, citronella, mint, and garlic have natural repellent properties and also attract dragonflies, which prey on mosquitoes and are harmless to humans. Citronella candles and tiki torches also add great outdoor ambiance, but be sure not to leave them unattended and extinguish them after every use.
Use low-tech solutions-If you don’t have a screened-in porch, you can purchase mosquito canopies at sporting goods stores and other retailers large enough to cover a picnic table. Mosquitoes are also very poor flyers, and outdoor fans will keep your family cool and keep the mosquitoes away!
