Most Arkansans complain about the heat throughout the summer, but it won’t be long before we’re all huddled together under blankets, fighting off the cold. Unfortunately, we’re not the only ones who seek a warm place to sleep at night, and if we’re not careful, we run the risk of sharing our home with unwanted guests!

Our team at The Bug Man has offered trusted pest control in Little Rock for over 48 years, and we’re always a phone call away when you need to deal with an infestation of insects or other pests. Insects and rodents can spread bacteria and trigger allergic reactions, and termites cause more property damage each year than fire, floods, and other natural disasters combined. But the best defense against household pests is a good offense, and there are several easy things that you can do as a homeowner to prevent insect invasions before they start!

Clean up the backyard-An unkempt yard provides plenty of habitat for pests, and this is an excellent time to mow your lawn and prune your shrubs one last time. Be sure to also get on your roof and clear any blockages in your gutter and downspouts, and store your firewood off the ground and at least 20 feet away from your home.

Repair access points-Arkansas’ heavy year-round rainfall can take its toll on your home exterior surfaces, so be sure to inspect your roofline for any wood rot or water damage and replace and repaint any damaged wood you see. You can also use clear siliconized caulk to seal up smaller cracks and gaps, particularly around any openings where pipes and utilities enter the home.

Repair drafty doors and windows-We offer brush sweep seals that tightly fit under the thresholds of exterior doors to prevent rodents and insects from entering your home. Inexpensive weatherstripping is easy to install around drafty windows, and it’s a great way to tide you over until you’re ready to upgrade your home with new energy-efficient windows or add new storm doors.
