Summer fun in the backyard is something that we all enjoy, but an unexpected mosquito infestation can be a real nuisance. In fact, you may even be tempted to keep your family inside and sit around the television, like you do the rest of the year.

Don’t let the mosquitoes win! Our team at The Bug Man offers affordable treatment plans, and we’re always a phone call away. Professional treatment is by far the most effective method of mosquito prevention, but here are a few other things that you can do on your own to have fun in the sun, without all the unwanted guests.

Keep em’ out!-If you’re fortunate enough to have a screened-in porch, make sure that there are no tears or openings in the screens. For a more temporary solution, you can also purchase inexpensive nets and screens at any retailer that carries camping supplies. And mosquitoes aren’t active in winds that exceed 10 mph, so large outdoor fans can serve the dual purpose of keeping your family cool, and keeping flying insects away.

Take away their breeding sites-Stagnant water is where mosquitoes lay their eggs. and should be the first thing to go. Change pet water frequently, empty kiddie pools when not in use, and keep the lid on your garbage cans. Also make sure to mow your lawn and keep weeds and yard vegetation trimmed.

Use repellents-Any Arkansan understands the importance of packing bug spray when camping or enjoying other outdoor activities, and the good news is that there are now a number of effective products that come without a nasty chemical smell. If you’d like to pre-treat your yard, make sure that the products that you use contain pyrethroids for maximum effectiveness. And don’t forget to light a few citronella candles or tiki torches after dark.

If you’re looking for something a bit more natural, plant citronella, garlic, and marigolds in your garden or flowerbed. In addition to their natural repellent properties, they also attract dragonflies, which are mosquito predators.

Mosquitoes and other unwanted pests are no match for The Bug Man, and we have many affordable treatment plans that will keep your home pest-free this summer. Give us a call at (501) 663-9464, and let us know how we can help!
