During the winter months, it’s easy to convince yourself that there’s nothing to worry about when it comes to bugs. But with termites, you can never afford to let your guard down! Most household pests are simply a nuisance, but a termite infestation can be a lot worse. In fact, termite damage affects homeowners more often than flooding, fire, or other natural disasters! combined.

Since 1976, The Bug Man has been central Arkansas’ leading provider of pest, wildlife and termite control, and we’re here to help! A termite contract is required by most homeowners’ policies, (not required in our state) and it’s a great way to achieve the peace of mind that comes with a pest-free home. We’ll provide you with a detailed list of recommendations each time that we perform your annual termite inspection, and we also suggest doing a couple of things on your own to lessen the risk of a major infestation:

  • Visually inspect your home
The early stages of an infestation are difficult to spot. The most obvious evidence that you’ll find are “mud tubes” on the side of your home. Termites construct mud tubes from a mixture of saliva and frass (droppings) as a source of the moisture and insulation that they need to survive. If you spot warped paint or sawdust, tap on the wood. If you hear a hollow sound, that often indicates activity.
  • Eliminate access and habitats
Termites require moisture to survive, and prefer dark, humid areas. Make sure that your household gutters and downspouts aren’t blocked, and that standing water doesn’t accumulate near your home. Don’t store firewood directly next to your home, and make sure that there are no areas of direct wood-to-earth contact. And be sure to give your exterior wood surfaces a fresh coat of paint every few years!

A termite infestation can cause thousands of dollars’ worth of structural damage if it isn’t caught in time, but the good news is that most infestations are preventable. That’s why you should never forget to schedule your annual termite inspection! Our team at The Bug Man has been protecting homes throughout Arkansas for four decades, and we back all of our work with a 100% satisfaction guarantee!
