Summer is over, and now it’s that time of year when varmints start searching for their winter homes. Unfortunately, our own homes offer a pleasant winter vacation spot for critters. Squirrels, mice, and other nuisance animals can and will find all opportunities for refuge that your home may present.

After all of these years in the wildlife removal and pest control business, we’ve seen and heard of some whacky techniques that didn’t work. Of those were:

  • Vibration machines set up to deter critters (This doesn’t work either.)
  • And possibly the worst of all: Using so much poison they can’t let their kids play in the yard. This is dangerous for your pets as well, and we know of some folks who have had to give up gardening and other joys of life due to all the poison they’ve put in their yard.

Voles – also known as field mice – are a significant food source for hawks, foxes, coyotes and owls. Without a professional, these critters are especially difficult to eradicate. Flooding just shows you where the field mice have been in your yard, not where they escape to when the deluge comes. It’s important to note that removal of a food source must be done in an environmentally friendly manner as to not disrupt the circle of life in your neighborhood’s outdoors!
