bedbugsBed bugs are tiny insects approximately ⅛” in size that feed on human and animal blood, and their preferred habitat is anywhere where large numbers of people sleep. They aren’t known to transmit diseases, but their bites are painful and cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Many travelers inadvertently bring bed bugs home with them when they take vacations or business trips, and you’re just as likely to encounter them at a luxury hotel as you are at bargain-priced, nonbranded accommodations. But your best defense against bed bugs is a good offense, and The Bug Man is here to help!

We’ve been Arkansas’ most trusted pest control company since 1976, and we’re a phone call away if you need to schedule treatment for bed bugs or other pests; the good news is that they’re no match for travelers who take a few basic precautions. These three tips will help you avoid bringing them home from your upcoming trip, and you should contact us immediately if you suspect you have an infestation!

Carefully inspect your room at check-in—The first thing you should do when you get to your room is to pull back the corners of the sheets and mattress pad to check for evidence of bed bug activity. You probably won’t see any bugs, but if you find bloodstains on the mattress, ask for a different room or consider seeking alternate accommodations.

Keep luggage and linens off the floor—Bed bugs can’t fly, and they’re very poor climbers, but they love stowing away in luggage and soiled linens. Use the luggage rack to keep your suitcase off the floor during your stay, and store your dirty clothes in a plastic laundry bag. Be sure to also inspect the corners and lining of your luggage for stowaways as you pack.

Wash everything when you get home—You’ll probably be tired after your trip, but you should do the laundry as soon as you get home. Wash everything you took with you in the hottest water possible, whether you wore it or not. Check your luggage for stowaways one final time after you’re done unpacking, and keep it stored off the floor until it’s time for your next trip.
