Three easy tips to keep the cockroaches away this winter

One of the best things about wintertime is not being forced to deal with flying insects invading our personal space whenever we go outdoors! But just because you can’t see bugs doesn’t mean that they’re not there, and it’s not at all uncommon to experience increased indoor pest activity in the winter months. Cockroaches are a year-round threat for homeowners in The Natural State, but they’re no match for our team of pest control experts at The Bug Man!
Cockroaches carry bacteria and other pathogens, and they’re also some of the most resilient and fastest-breeding household pests you’re likely to encounter in your home. But there are several easy steps you can take to prevent cockroach infestations before they start, and we’re always a phone call away if you need to handle an advanced infestation!
Eliminate food sources—Maintaining a spotlessly clean kitchen is often easier said than done, but it’s a must if you hope to keep cockroaches and other pests away! Take out the trash daily (even if the bag isn’t completely full), and be sure not to leave any food residue behind after preparing meals. Cereal, grains, and pasta should always be stored in airtight containers, and don’t forget to clean your toaster and the areas under your oven and fridge regularly!
Declutter your attic and other storage areas—Cockroaches feel safest in dark, moist places close to the ground, of which the average home has plenty! It’s a good bet that you’re overdue for a purge, and the fewer plastic bags and cardboard boxes you have piled up in your attic or garage, the better!
Use glue traps and repellents—Glue traps can be highly effective at eliminating stray cockroaches, and there are also baits available that stick to roaches so they can carry them back to the nest. If you have children or pets in the home, be sure to carefully review the safety instructions on the packaging before purchase. And if you’re looking for a natural repellent that also smells great, mix a few drops of your favorite essential oil (such as peppermint, tea tree, or cedarwood oil) with water in a spray bottle, and regularly spray around baseboards and under sinks.
