There’s an old saying that a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, but a bird in attic is a very different story! When temperatures drop, wildlife seeks out shelter anywhere that it can find warmth, and that often includes your attic and crawlspaces.

When you need expert animal removal services in a flash, call The Bug Man! In addition to providing insect control services, we’re also experts in humane raccoon, opossum, and squirrel removal! But the best way to protect yourself is to make sure that you’re not providing them access to your home, which can be done with a few easy steps:

Secure that crawlspace – If your home has a crawl space, the access door needs to be shut at all times, and properly secured. If you simply jam a stick in the latch, it could be knocked loose by a storm or a crafty raccoon, so you may be better off with a padlock. Also, be sure that your vent screens are in good shape, and free from holes.

Inspect your eaves, soffit, and fascia – We get a lot of rain in Arkansas, and you’d be amazed at how quickly water damage can lead to wood rot. It’s a good idea to periodically walk around your house and look for cracks or holes on the roof-line. If caught early enough, repairing water damage is typically a pretty inexpensive process, and it can save you a lot of trouble in the future.

Check for roof damage – Grab a ladder and look for any roof damage that goes beyond standard wear and tear. Be sure to also take a look around the edges of your roof turbines and exhaust vents and make sure that there are no gaps around the edges.

It’s easy to understand why birds, rodents, and other unwanted guests are attracted to attics and crawl spaces when old man winter is doing his worst. But they can very quickly do a lot of damage if they’re allowed to roam freely. If you ever have unwanted visitors, give us a call, and we’ll evict them!
