Three Ways to Keep Your Home Cockroach Free
Cockroaches are one of Earth’s oldest and toughest species. They can survive for up to a month without food, and possibly even survive a nuclear war. But they’re no match for The Bug Man! Since 1976, we’ve been the undisputed Arkansas home pest control leader, and we’re here to make sure that you have a cockroach free home!
When it comes to roach control, your best defense is cleanliness, particularly in the kitchen. We can always visit your home and make specific recommendations, but here are a few easy things that you can do right away:
1. Clean your kitchen thoroughly – Cockroaches are talented scavengers that can find the tiniest of crumbs in kitchens that look clean. But for most kitchens, they don’t have to work that hard. For starters, if you don’t take out the trash every night, you could be setting up an all-you-can-eat cockroach buffet. The same goes for dishes; the longer that they stay piled up in the sink, the more time the roaches will have to find them. Be sure to also frequently wipe down cabinet shelves, and clean behind and underneath appliances.
2. Eliminate standing water sources – If you leave pet food and water dishes out all night, you’re taking the chance of feeding more than just your pets. If you have any leaks under your sinks, toilets, or bathtubs, fix them. And if your children splash water all over the place when they take baths, make sure that they get their cell phones back after they wipe down the bathroom floor.
3. Seal up gaps around pipes, and any visible cracks that you find – Cockroaches can squeeze into some of the tiniest cracks and openings that you can imagine, but you can make their life a little tougher if you spend some time in your cabinets with a flashlight and a tube of caulk. One of the most important places to check is under the sinks, particularly where the drain pipe connects to the wall or the floor. Make sure that the sealant is still in good shape. Also, be on the lookout for any visible water damage or wood rot.
