There’s nothing quite like having some friends over for a backyard cookout, but an infestation of mosquitoes can make the experience downright unpleasant for you and your guests. In addition to being highly annoying, mosquitoes can also carry diseases such as West Nile and the Zika virus. But they’re no match for our team of pest control experts at The Bug Man, and we’re a phone call or mouse click away when you need us!

We’ve been Arkansas’ most trusted pest control company for over 49 years, and we offer mosquito treatment services each year from April through October. Our mosquito treatment plans start at $90 monthly for an average-sized yard, and we also offer single-visit, no-contract mosquito treatment services. Here are a few easy things you can do on your own to keep away mosquitoes and other flying pests this summer:

Eliminate habitats and breeding grounds—Your first step is to learn to think like an insect and identify all the places where they can hide. Mowing your lawn regularly is essential during the summer months, and you should also prune back vegetation that comes into direct contact with your home or roof. Mosquitoes breed in standing water, so be sure to keep your rain gutters clean and unobstructed and add fill dirt and/or pea gravel to any areas where rainwater accumulates.

Use screens and outdoor fans—Be sure to repair damaged door and window screens right away to keep mosquitoes out of your home, and consider screening in your back porch during your next round of home renovations. And mosquitoes are poor flyers, so an outdoor fan is a great way to keep them at bay during outdoor gatherings, while also keeping you and your guests cool and comfortable.

Use Natural Repellents—Herbs such as citronella, basil, and rosemary have insect-repellent properties, and they’re also an excellent way to elevate your cooking. You can also add some fresh lavender or a few drops of your favorite essential oils to a spray bottle for quick cleanup jobs in the kitchen!
