Three easy ways to pest-proof your home this winter

You might not have to swat mosquitoes and other flying insects during the winter months, but the reality in The Natural State is that the threat is never truly over! Bugs don’t fly south for the winter, and when the temperatures drop, they begin seeking out warm places to sleep and breed. But our pest control experts at The Bug Man work all year long to help Arkansans keep their homes pest-free, and we’re here to help you get rid of any “uninvited guests” lurking in your yard, attic, or crawl space!
We’ve offered trusted pest control in Little Rock for over 49 years, and we’re always a phone call away whenever you need us. We also sell brush-sweep door seals to help you keep pests out of your sheds and outdoor storage buildings, and we offer annual termite inspections to help you prevent structural damage to your home. When it comes to pest control, the best defense is a good offense, and there are several easy things you can do on your own:
Clean and declutter your home and yard—An unkempt yard offers pests plenty of places to hide, and you should prune any tree branches and shrubs that come into direct contact with your home or roof. You should also keep your garage, attic, and crawl spaces clean and decluttered to eliminate potential nesting spots.
Eliminate sources of food and moisture—Be sure to take out the kitchen trash daily, and keep the lid on your outdoor bin closed at all times. You should also fill in any areas where rainwater accumulates with pea gravel and repair or replace leaky pipes, faucets, and appliances in your home right away.
Locate and seal up potential access points—As your home settles, cracks can form in your foundation, walls, and roofline, providing easy access for pests. Be sure to inspect your home’s exterior regularly and seal any openings you find with caulk, expandable foam, or copper mesh. You should also repair or replace torn screens and weatherstripping around your windows and doors, as well as behind your attic and crawl space vents.
